Was ist eigentlich die INCI?
Die INCI steht als Abkürzung für die Internationale Nomenklatur kosmetischer Inhaltsstoffe (Original: International Nomenclature of Cosmetic Ingredients). Sie listet alle Inhaltsstoffe auf, die in einem Produkt zum Einsatz kommen. Ihr Aufbau ist international standartisiert: der erste Inhaltsstoff ist der, der mengenmäßig am meisten vorkommt; alle danach folgenden Inhaltsstoffe sind jeweils mengenmäßig weniger als ihr Vorgänger (Erster Inhaltsstoff: am meisten; letzter: am wenigsten).
Viele der eingesetzten Begriffe leiten sich von wissenschaftlichen Namen ab, z.B. für Extrakte und Öle. Die Auflistung "Prunus Amygdalus Seed Oil" ist z.B. die Bezeichnung für Mandelkernöl. Andere werden unter ihrem Namen nach Europäischem Arzneibuch, INN (Internationaler Freiname) oder Bezeichnungen der Weltgesundheitsorganisation geführt, z.B. eine Vielzahl von Konservierungsmitteln und Säuren. So ist Methylparaben ein Konservierungsmittel aus der Gruppe der Parabene; Glycolic Acid ist der Name von Glykolsäure.
Insgesamt 26 Duftstoffe werden als potenziell allergen eingestuft und müssen daher gesondert ausgewiesen werden, z.B. Alpha-Isomethyl Ionone. Früher wurden diese unter dem Namen "Parfum" zusammen gefasst. Konzentrationen in zum Abwasch gedachten Produkten (z.B. Seife und Duschgel) sind bei Konzentrationen unter 0,01% nicht kennzeichnungspflichtig; bei Produkten, die auf der Haut verweilen (z.B. Parfüm, Creme oder Haarlack) 0,001%.
Am Ende der eingesetzten Wirkstoffe folgen die CI-Nummern, die vorwiegend in Makeup vorhanden sind. Dabei handelt es sich um die Kürzel von "Colour Index"; die dahinter stehende fünfstellige Nummer gibt einen exakten Farbton wieder. Beispielhafte Nummern sind CI 45410 und CI 77491. Enthält ein Produkt mehrere Formeln bei denen je nach Farbe unterschiedliche Farbstoffe eingesetzt werden, so werden diese häufig als +/- ausgezeichnet. Das bedeutet, dass tendenziell alle aufgelisteten Farbstoffe in diesem Produkt enthalten sein könnten. Für Haarfarben müssen übrigens keine Farbstoffe (bzw. CI-Nummern) deklariert werden.
Inhaltsstoffe, die Größen im Bereich der Nanometer haben, müssen zusätzlich mit der Kennzeichnung (Nano) oder [Nano] hinter dem jeweiligen Wirk-/Farbstoff gekennzeichnet werden, z.B. CI 77891 (Nano).
